Inside Nomadic

Confessions of a Nomadic Intern

(Editors note: Tyler has since been promoted to Associate Art Director but her confessions remain true.)

I was given the amazing opportunity to join Nomadic Agency as their Creative Intern. So, I stuffed everything I owned inside of my Toyota Camry and moved across the country from Iowa (not Idaho or Ohio) to Arizona. This adventure was exciting and overwhelming, and after spending some time here, I am even more in love with my job and the people who work here than I thought possible.

#1 – I OFFICE-STALKED EVERYONE

The first week, I didn’t think anybody knew what to do with me. So I sat in on meetings, followed Scott Berchman around the office, and kept a Word doc of vocabulary terms to help me sort out all of the foreign terminology that was being thrown around. I did my best to learn everybody’s position in the office and how all of the pieces fit together to make a kick ass team of professionals. I got a crash course in designing for web and using Photoshop for everything. Literally, everything.

#2 – BEING PRODUCTIVE IS SCARY

Everyday I leave this place inspired to do something great. One night I decided to be extra productive and stay late at work. I learned that my badge to get in the office doesn’t work after a certain time and ended up locking myself out. After much bell-ringing and loud knocking, Tim Washburn came out and let me in. He seemed confused, but I was very grateful. It would’ve been a long walk home.

#3 – TALENT OVERLOAD

Every single person here is not only talented but super helpful. I asked a bazillion questions, and nobody hesitated to point me in the right direction. I’m positive that everyone walks around wearing super hero duds under their clothes.

#4 – SOCIAL MEDIA IS THE NEXT FRONTIER

Before this job, I never really thought twice about promotions or how valuable social content is for a brand. Now it’s what I spend most of my time doing…and look at me now, gearing up to someday be a pro.

Being a Nomad does not mean that I am a wanderer. It means that I am a part of a small agency that produces big ideas. My final confession? I am beyond excited to move on from intern to production designer – starting now.
